Helping you make positive lasting change in your life

Welcome to Susie Richards Therapies

Prof. Dip Psy C, MNCPS Acc, DIP HYP CS, Dip

I am a passionate and empathetic qualified and experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor, supporting young adults (from 18 years old) and adults through difficult times. Life can be tough and reaching out to someone can be really daunting which is why I provide a non-judgemental ‘safe’ space for you to talk about and explore what may have happened to you in your past and how this may be impacting your present.

All of us benefit from feeling listened to, accepted and understood. I aim to understand the whole person within a therapeutic relationship, working holistically to ensure that the relationship between client and therapist is open, honest, non-judgemental in a confidential space. Feeling comfortable working with a counsellor with whom you have a relationship built upon trust, openness and honesty, where you can feel at ease and accepted without judgement.

Even if you are just curious about hypnotherapy or psychotherapeutic counselling, you will be amazed by the inner shift brought about by this treatment, with me guiding you every step of the way in a relaxed, peaceful environment. Sessions are confidential and available online and in person. If you’d like to know a bit more about the therapies I offer, please do get in touch for an initial free 20 minutes chat.

I am a member of the National Hypnotherapy Society and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and abide by their code of ethics.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of healing that involves me gently easing you into a deeply relaxed, calm and receptive state of mind, a place in between being awake and asleep, allowing me to engage with your subconscious mind. All sessions are adapted to your specific needs and what you wish to get out of hypnotherapy. The process begins with making sure you are comfortable, before gradually guiding you into a state of pure relaxation. You will always be aware of what is happening and will be fully in control at all times.

Once you are in this relaxed state, I will provide a number of messages, suggestions, metaphors, and anything else that is relevant to your situation, with a view towards challenging and overcoming the limiting beliefs or negative experiences that prevent you from moving forward in life. Working in this way can release pent up emotions and bring difficult memories out into the open, allowing you to make genuine lasting change.

A recording of the session can be given, allowing you to reinforce the messages of our session. I am also able to provide other techniques that you can use in between treatments.

Stress management

Anxiety

Panic disorder

Low confidence

Preparing for exams/tests

Interview confidence

Public speaking

Procrastination

IBS

Anger management

Low self-esteem

Feeling stuck in life

Performance in sport

Symptoms of menopause and perimenopause

Insomnia and improving sleep patterns

Weight management and relationship with food

Fatigue

Stopping smoking

Fears and phobias

Overcoming bad and self-destructive habits

Using hypnosis, you are able to make small changes - helping you to move forward, feel more calm, be happier, more confident and in control. This will free your mind, allowing you to go on to achieve your goals.

Psychotherapy - Counselling - Trauma Informed Therapy

Counselling can help people in many ways and can address many issues. These might include anxiety and depression, low mood, panic attacks, feeling trapped by the past, painful emotions, trauma, abuse, health concerns, low self-esteem, stress, work related stress, low self-confidence, difficulty in relationships, decision making, gender issues, bereavement and feeling anxious about the future.

I find it extremely rewarding and humbling that my clients feedback to me how valuable they find our sessions, how working together they have been able to discover deep routed issues, which have subconsciously impacted negatively on their lives, be able to make sense of how they feel and together implementing solutions for positive change.

I am passionate to empower individuals to make positive changes in their lives. Often life throws inevitable curve balls and navigating them can be tricky. Personal therapy can be highly effective to achieve self-discovery, unexpected realisation and welcomed personal growth.

Typically, new clients will feel daunted as they set out on their therapeutic journey, but you are not alone, as by nature as a warm, compassionate and friendly therapist, I offer you my undivided attention in a safe and respectful space to talk and explore your concerns freely and authentically without judgement.

In an initial consultation we would discuss your unique needs while getting to know each other and helping me to understand how you think and feel, while helping you to decide if I am a good fit for you and whether you would like to proceed with therapy.

I am a Pluralistic practitioner, meaning that I am trained in a wide variety of therapy approaches, tools and techniques, which we can explore in finding what is right for you. There is no pressure, and you will set the pace, as you feel comfortable.

Committing to, and undertaking this process, will increase your self-awareness, and in-turn, help develop self-acceptance and self-compassion so that you can finally have control over issues such as emotional pain, depression, fear and anxiety, stress, self-defeating behaviour and unhelpful habits.

All my clients find immediate benefits simply by being able to open up and speak unreservedly about their feelings. For some this is sufficient, while many go on to engage in open ended therapy developing their self-awareness and confidence in overcoming life’s challenges as an investment in their mental well-being, in support of a calmer, happier and more peaceful future.

As well as counselling I offer AMDR (Applied Memory Deconsolidation Reconsolidation) a form of trauma informed therapy which is an exciting breakthrough in therapy and personal development. It is a treatment tool for anxieties, fears, trauma, procrastination, addictions, weight loss and much more; a gentle, highly effective way to transform any issues, unblocking emotional happiness or personal achievement.

How I Work

From the initial consultation and throughout the treatment you can expect a highly professional service from me, keeping your aim and progress at the heart of the treatment programme.

Free Initial Consultation

It is quite normal to feel anxious in seeking help and you are free to get in touch before deciding to book your first session of therapy. This is your chance to ask me any questions and see if we’re the right fit for each other. I will then send you an initial consultation form, which allows me to understand your current situation, for us to establish expectations and what you want to get out of therapy - meaning I can personalise treatment closely to your needs. Everyone is different, so taking this time to learn about you is a fundamental part of delivering the best possible form of solution-focused therapy.

First Session

Our first session will be about isolating the particular issue you want to work on, understanding its role in your life, so we can determine what you need to move beyond this problem. Hypnotherapy is a targeted form of treatment, so usually clients only need around six sessions to work through the issue, whereas psychotherapy is a more open ended journey. If you are working on something specific, like stopping smoking, it may be that you only need one or two hypnotherapy sessions. Every individual is different, so we always work in accordance with your particular situation.

Online Therapy

Many people assume that hypnotherapy or psychotherapy can only work when the practitioner is in the same room as the client, but this is simply not true. I routinely deliver hypnotherapy and/or psychotherapeutic counselling online, and the feedback is always extremely positive. Working online from the comfort of one’s own home further allows clients to feel more relaxed and enjoy greater privacy. This added comfort makes it easier to enter a relaxed and receptive state of mind, needed for effective hypnotherapy to take place, or to talk freely. Being able to work in this way also allows us to be more flexible with timings and means you don’t have to worry about the cost and stress of travelling to my practice. There are benefits of both online and therapy in person and the choice is yours.

About Me

I am a professionally trained, fully qualified, experienced, registered and accredited member of both the National Hypnotherapy Society, and the National Counselling and Physiotherapy Society, bound by their code of conduct and ethics.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in a range of roles with large corporate companies. During this time, I saw how people could lose confidence, suffer from a build-up of stress, and not know where to turn. After becoming a well-practiced therapist, I noticed the way it can help people change something negative into a positive, through working on that subconscious level and giving them the space they need, to process the pain and limiting beliefs they hold inside themselves.

I am now dedicated to using hypnotherapy, Psychotherapeutic Counselling and AMDR Trauma Informed Therapy in support of others, helping people overcome challenges and self-destructive habits, to make positive changes in their lives. Feel free to get in touch at any time to arrange a free initial consultation.
